Section 391.942 - [Expires 6/30/2025] Creation; membership; vacancy; quorum; chair; meetings; members serve without compensation; members holding public office or employed by governmental entity1. The Advisory Committee on the Safety and Well-Being of Public School Staff is hereby created within the Department.2. The Advisory Committee consists of the following members: (a) Five members appointed by the Governor who are licensed pursuant to this chapter and employed by a school district in this State, at least four of whom must teach in the classroom;(b) Three members appointed by the Majority Leader of the Senate, as follows: (1) One member of the Senate;(2) One education support professional who is employed by a school district in this State and works primarily at a single public school; and(3) One administrator of an elementary school in this State;(c) Three members appointed by the Speaker of the Assembly, as follows: (1) One member of the Assembly;(2) One education support professional who is employed by a school district in this State, works primarily for the school district and is assigned to multiple public schools; and(3) One administrator of a high school in this State; and(d) The following ex officio members: (1) The Superintendent of Public Instruction or his or her designee; and(2) The Director of the Office for a Safe and Respectful Learning Environment appointed pursuant to NRS 388.1323.3. Any vacancy occurring in the membership of the Advisory Committee must be filled in the same manner as the original appointment.4. Any legislative member of the Advisory Committee who is not a candidate for reelection or who is defeated for reelection continues to serve after the general election.5. A majority of the members of the Advisory Committee constitutes a quorum for the transaction of business, and a majority of a quorum present at any meeting is sufficient for any official action taken by the Advisory Committee.6. At its first meeting, the Advisory Committee shall elect a Chair from among its members.7. The Advisory Committee shall meet at least once in the first calendar year after its creation and thereafter at the call of the Chair as frequently as is required to perform its duties.8. The members of the Advisory Committee serve without compensation and are not entitled to the per diem and travel expenses provided for state officers and employees generally.9. Any member of the Advisory Committee who is an officer or employee of this State or a political subdivision of this State must be relieved from his or her duties without loss of regular compensation so that he or she may prepare for and attend meetings of the Advisory Committee and perform any work necessary to carry out the duties of the Advisory Committee in the most timely manner practicable. A state agency or political subdivision of this State shall not require an officer or employee who is a member of the Advisory Committee to: (a) Make up the time the member is absent from work to carry out his or her duties as a member of the Advisory Committee; or(b) Take annual leave or compensatory time for the absence.10. As used in this section, "education support professional" means a person that is employed by a school district in this State and not required, as a condition of his or her employment, to hold a license issued pursuant to this chapter.
