P.R. Laws tit. 23, § 8002
For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms and phrases shall have the meanings stated hereinbelow:
(a) Executive Director. — Shall mean the Executive Director of the Industrial Development Company.
(b) Artisanry. — Shall mean a piece of work that has been fundamentally or essentially created or produced manually, which reflects the creativity of its producer and the cultural traits of Puerto Rico.
(c) Puerto Rican Artisanry. — Shall mean an artisanry product that meets the characteristics usually recognized in the same, as specified in the Program, such as:
(1) It is produced in Puerto Rico;
(2) by a Puerto Rican or by a person who has a bona fide residence in Puerto Rico;
(3) uses local raw material as much as possible;
(4) is crafted by hand or with the artisan’s tools, equipment or instruments that expedite or perfect his/her labor;
(5) it follows the original design of the artisan;
(6) no commercial patterns or models are used, except when the same are creations of the artisan him/herself;
(7) its themes are inspired on the various aspects of Puerto Rican culture, such as its the history, fauna, flora, symbols, traditions and customs of the Puerto Rican society, and preserve the typical characteristics thereof, although they are new creations in which new developments of such themes are explored;
(8) universal themes, such as love, fraternity, peace and others, are inspired on the personal experiences of the artist.
(d) Artisans. — Shall mean every natural person residing in Puerto Rico, who, through of his/her ability and skills creates, mainly by hand, a work called artisanry, as defined in this chapter.
(e) Corporation. — Shall mean the Puerto Rico Agricultural and Commercial Development and Credit Corporation, attached to the Economic Development Bank of Puerto Rico, by virtue of Act No. 1 of August 21, 1990.
(f) Director. — Shall mean the Director of the Artisanry Development Program.
(g) Board. — Shall mean the Program’s Advisory Board, duly constituted, pursuant to § 8009 of this title.
(h) Person. — Shall mean every natural or juridical person, entity or group of a public or private nature.
(i) Program. — Shall mean the Artisanry Development Program attached to the Industrial Development Company.
