§ 65a. Functions and duties

The Geology and Hydrogeology Division, created by virtue of § 65 of this title, shall have the following functions and duties:

(a) To participate in the technical analysis of the proposals for development presented to the Planning Board;

(b) to collaborate in the preparation, analysis and implementation of general plans such as the Master Plan for the Use of the Land of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, regional plans and the territorial ordinance plans of the municipalities;

(c) to participate in the evaluation of public policies and development guidelines;

(d) to promote the development of integral strategies and plans for the management and conservation of hydrographic basins and maritime-terrestrial zones;

(e) to study and identify parcels of land that because of their lithic, mineral, and geological relief or formation have natural or economic value or require special protection or management;

(f) to identify and evaluate land which is vulnerable to situations such as flooding, tsunamis, landslides, landslips and erosion;

(g) to study the condition and promote the conservation of our surface and subterranean water resources;

(h) to conduct detailed studies of plans, aerial photographs, and soils, as well as geotechnical studies and other related documents;

(i) to participate in educational and orientation initiatives for the community, developed by the Planning Board and other entities of the Government of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and the Government of the United States, and

(j) to collaborate with the Legislature and the agencies, instrumentalities, dependencies, public corporations and municipal governments of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico pursuant to the applicable legal and regulatory provisions as well as to the priorities and work plans provided by the Planning Board.
