§ 148a. Restructuring

The Council is hereby restructured to be composed of a Chairperson and six (6) additional members appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate.

The members of the Council shall be citizens of the United States with residence in Puerto Rico and over twenty-one (21) years of age. They shall hold office for the term of their appointment or until their successors take office. The members shall be covered by former §§ 1801 et seq. of this title, known as the “Commonwealth of Puerto Rico Ethics in Government Act”. The members of the Council shall only be dismissed by the Governor upon a determination of just cause and the filing of charges.

No person who is holding an elective public office or who is a member of a central, regional, precinct, municipal directing body, or that holds the representation of an entity, association, federation or union related to education shall be a member of the Council.

The members of the Preceding Council shall be a part of the new Council and shall remain in office until the expiration of their corresponding terms. Their successors shall be appointed for a term of five (5) years.

Vacancies in the Council shall be filled for the remainder of the terms of the members that caused them.
