§ 2013. Establishment; composition; terms

The Governor of Puerto Rico, with the advice and consent of the Senate of Puerto Rico, shall designate a Regulating Board, (hereinafter “the Board”), to regulate and follow-up the reeducation and retraining programs under § 636 of Title 8, part of “Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act”.

The Board shall consist of seven (7) members designated by the Governor, with the advice and consent of the Senate of Puerto Rico. Of the seven (7) members designated by the Governor, one shall be a representative of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, a representative of the Department of the Family, the Women’s Advocate, one (1) clinical psychologist with preparation or experience in the area of domestic violence, one (1) representative of the Mental Health and Addiction Services Administration (ASSMCA, in Spanish), a social worker with experience in the area of domestic violence, and an attorney with experience and knowledge in the area of domestic violence.

The terms for the first incumbents shall be as follows: one (1) designation of two (2) years, two (2) designations of (3) years, two (2) for four (4) years and two (2) for five (5) years. Their successors shall be designated for terms of five (5) years each.

In all cases, the persons designated shall be in office until their successors are designated and take possession of their charges, and the Board itself shall elect from among its members a chairperson, a secretary, and any other official deemed necessary; Provided, That if a vacancy occurs in the Board before the expiration of the term of any of the members, the person designated to hold said office shall fill the position for the remainder of that term. The president shall designate, as set forth by regulation adopted for such purposes, the necessary committees to perform the duties of the Board.
