The County Courts at Law of Travis County hear:
(a) Civil cases in which the amount in controversy is $500-$250,000, excluding interest, statutory or punitive damages and penalties, attorneys fees and costs, as alleged on the face of the petition.(b) Eminent domain (condemnation) cases regardless of the amount in controversy;(c) Appeals of final rulings and decisions of the Texas Workers' Compensation Commission regardless of the amount in controversy;(d) Criminal offenses which are either class A or B misdemeanors;(e) Appeals from Justice of the Peace Courts and Municipal Courts within Travis County;(f) Cases seeking a protective order pursuant to Chapter 71, Texas Family Code;(g) Occupational Drivers Licenses;(h) Appeals from the State Office of Administrative Hearings concerning Administrative License Revocations;(i) County Court at Law No. 4 also has jurisdiction of state jail felony and third degree felony cases involving family violence. While the County Courts at Law also have jurisdiction in probate and mental health matters, those cases are heard primarily by Probate Court No. 1 of Travis County.
