Section 38-24 - Continuing Evaluation of the Program

(a) Beginning not later than October 1,2007, then on October 1, 2008 and October 1, 2009 and by October 1 in each odd-numbered year thereafter, the Department, in consultation with the Commission and the eligible institutions shall make recommendations to the governor and the Legislature on whether or not the following requirements for Hathaway Scholarship eligibility need modification:

  • (i) Success curriculum requirements;
  • (ii) Minimum composite ACT or cumulative WorkKeys scores for initial eligibility;
  • (iii) Minimum high school GPA for the various scholarships; and
  • (iv) Other Components of the Hathaway Scholarship Program which may need modification to continue to provide the desired incentives for students to pursue a rigorous high school curriculum and strive to achieve academic success.

(b) Within the time specified in (a) above, the Department, in consultation with the eligible institutions, shall make recommendations to the governor and the legislature for the adoption of statewide student assessment standards and scores to augment qualifying ACT or WorkKeys scores.

(c) Continuing evaluation shall also identify additional resources needed to enable school districts to provide the success curriculum to their students, particularly those districts which have been granted coursework exception from success curriculum requirements for good cause.
