A permit-issuing authority may issue to an electric utility company, as defined in SDCL 49-3A-1(7), an annual permit which allows for the movement on state trunk highways of an overlength permit vehicle hauling utility poles. The permit allows movement of poles up to 85 feet long on a permit vehicle consisting of a straight truck-trailer combination or a semitractor-trailer combination. Poles over 85 feet long require a single-trip permit.
The permit is assigned to the electric utility company. The utility company shall make a copy of the permit for each vehicle requiring a permit. The utility company shall fill in the blanks for "Make Truck," "State," "License No.," and "Serial Number" for the vehicle covered by the copy of the permit and shall place that copy of the permit in the vehicle.
