Section 216-RICR-50-05-2.1 - Authority and PurposeA. These regulations are promulgated pursuant to the authority conferred by R.I. Gen. Laws §§ 23-1-5.3(5) and 23-1-5.3(6), in order to protect public health by ensuring the drinking water quality of private water supply systems.B. The Office of Private Well Water Contamination (OPWWC) has established these rules and regulations to apply to all private-drinking-water systems, as defined in this Part, that do not meet the definition of a "public water supplier", or those not covered by more stringent local community definitions. Additionally, these rules and regulations provide direction for local officials regarding local enforcement regarding data reporting requirements.
