I, Mary Fallin, Governor of the State of Oklahoma, hereby direct the appropriate steps be taken to fly all American and Oklahoma flags on State property at half-staff immediately on Monday, August 27, 2018, through 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2018, to honor the life and legacy of John Sidney McCain III, who passed away on August 25, 2018. McCain was a longtime United States Senator from Arizona, United States Congressman, Vietnam Veteran, Prisoner of War, Purple Heart Recipient and the Republican Presidential nominee in 2008.

Senator McCain had an extraordinary record of leadership and knowledge that exemplified his steadfast and honorable lifetime commitment to service. The son and grandson of distinguished Navy Admirals, Senator McCain graduated from the Naval Academy in 1958, and served as a Naval aviator for 22 years, including service during the Vietnam War. At the time of his passing, he had served the United States of America for sixty years.

Senator McCain is survived by his loving wife, Cindy, seven children and five grandchildren. He will be laid to rest at the U.S. Naval Academy Cemetery in Annapolis, Maryland

This executive order shall be forwarded to the Division of Capital Assets Management, who shall cause the provisions of this order to be implemented by all appropriate agencies of state government.
