Section He-C 6450.21 - Daily Needs(a) The experiential/wilderness facility shall have a written plan for medical services that describes the ways the experiential/wilderness facility obtains or provides all general and specialized medical, surgical, and dental services.(b) A physician, nurse, emergency medical technician, licensed health practitioner, or a person who has an American Red Cross or its equivalent certificate in basic first aid shall provide emergency medical care.(c) Meals shall be available 3 times each day, and snacks shall be available whenever practical.(d) A change of clothing shall be available to each juvenile each day that includes socks, underwear, and outerwear suitable to weather conditions.(e) The experiential/wilderness facility shall ensure that juveniles are supplied with personal clothing that meets their age, size, and seasonal needs for participation in the program.(f) At least once a day, each juvenile shall have the opportunity to bathe.(g) Each juvenile shall be required to brush his or her teeth at least once a day.(h) For each 10 juveniles participating in any activity involving water, such as swimming, boating, canoeing, and rafting, there shall be a minimum of 2 counselors possessing valid American Red Cross or its equivalent basic first aid certificates, CPR certification and a valid American Red Cross or its equivalent of emergency water safety and rescue certification.(i) Visitation and telephone contacts between the juvenile and family and significant others shall be encouraged.(j) An itinerary shall be on file at the experiential/wilderness facility for any activity lasting more than 24 hours that is off the site property.(k) The itinerary shall include in the daily schedule: (1) A list of check-in points;(2) The names of participating staff and juveniles; and(3) Information regarding contacts in case of an emergency on route, such as sheriff's departments and hospitals.(l) A copy of the itinerary shall be given to those transporting the juveniles and to the JPPO for each participating juvenile.N.H.
