Section LXV-501 - Purpose of AssessmentA. Assessment is the "process of collecting, synthesizing and interpreting information to aid in decision making" (Airasian, 1991)4 . It is an important tool used to make decisions about educational quality and improvement. It is a key tool used by Louisiana Department of Education staff, members of the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, and other stakeholders to make decisions about education policy and to ensure accountability.
