Section 210 IAC 8-8-28 - Health-related situation response time

Sec. 28.

(a) Written policy, procedure, and practice provide that designated direct care staff and all health care staff:
(1) are trained to respond; and
(2) respond; to health-related situations within a four (4) minute response time.
(b) The training program, established by the responsible health care authority, in cooperation with the facility administrator, is conducted on an annual basis to ensure staff readiness and includes the following:
(1) Recognition of signs and symptoms and knowledge of action that is required in potential emergency situations.
(2) Recognition of signs and symptoms of the following:
(A) Mental illness.
(B) Violent behavior.
(C) Acute chemical intoxication and withdrawal.
(3) Methods of obtaining assistance.
(4) Administration of basic first aid and certification in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with the recommendations of the certifying health organization.
(5) Suicide intervention.
(6) Procedures for patient transfers to appropriate medical facilities or community health service providers.
(c) This is a mandatory standard.
