Authority: IC 8-1-1-3; IC 8-1-2-4

Affected: IC 8-1-2-34; IC 8-1-2-35

Sec. 5.

Location of Meters.

(A) It is recommended that all meters hereafter installed should be located outdoors. Where outdoor installation is impractical, meters may be located indoors, as near as possible to the service entrance, in a clean, dry, safe place.
(B) Meters shall not be placed on any unstable partitions or supports. Unless unavoidable, meters should not be installed in any location where the visits of the meter reader or tester will cause unreasonable annoyance to the customer or undue inconvenience to the utility.
(C) Meters shall be easily accessible for reading, testing and making necessary adjustments and repairs. When a number of meters are placed on the same meter board, the distance between centers may be specified by the public utility company, but in no case shall such distance be less than 7 1/2 inches. Upon request by the residential customer, the utility shall provide the customer with the number of the meter which serves the individual customer's premises, to provide the customer with an opportunity to verify the meter readings. On an installation where similar types of meters record different units (KWH and RKVAH, for example) the meters shall be tagged or marked to indicate the units recorded. Meters should not be less than 4 feet nor more than 6 feet above the final standing surface, measured from the center of the meter cover, unless authorized by the public utility company.
