Rule 5-E1202 - ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE
1202.1

It shall be the policy of the Board of Education to grant absence from duty without charge to leave to employees in the Career and Educational Service in situations where the interest of the Board is served and in any other situations deemed appropriate by the Board or the Superintendent of Schools. These situations include but are not limited to those specified in this section.

1202.2

Employees who are authorized to attend appropriate job-related technical, scientific, and professional conferences, conventions, meetings, seminars, symposiums, approved training courses, and workshops during regular duty hours shall be considered to be in an administrative leave status.

1202.3

An employee of the Board of Education shall be carried in a duty status when summoned to serve as a juror on a petit or grand panel.

1202.4

If an employee is excused from jury duty for all or substantial part of a day, he or she shall report to the place of employment and perform regularly assigned duties for that period.

1202.5

If an employee is absent because of a subpoena from a court of competent jurisdiction to serve as a witness for the District or federal governments, the employee may be absent with pay and without the loss of accrued leave.

1202.6

Absence in connection with personal litigation shall be chargeable to annual leave.

1202.7

When an employee is injured in the performance of his or her duties, he or she shall be considered in a duty status during the time required for initial examination or emergency treatment to the extent that the time falls within the scheduled hours of duty for that day.

1202.8

Employees may be granted a reasonable amount of time to prepare and present appeals in connection with adverse actions, grievances, and discrimination complaints.

1202.9

Employees shall be considered in a duty status during grievance and appeals hearings.

1202.10

Procedures for the authorization of administrative leave shall be established by the Director of Personnel.

1202.11

The terms of any negotiated agreement relating to administrative leave shall supersede this section.
