Rule 5-E1026 - TEACHER FOREIGN EXCHANGE PROGRAM
1026.1

The Superintendent of Schools may authorize the participation of educational employees in the teacher foreign exchange program; provided, that the Board of Education is either reimbursed for a participating teacher's salary or receives the services of a teacher in exchange.

1026.2

Any employee who is approved as an exchange participant shall serve for a period not to exceed two (2) calendar years and shall, at the conclusion of the exchange service, be returned to a position comparable to the one held before the exchange commenced.

1026.3

The Board of Education shall pay the full salary of the educational employee during the time the employee is performing teaching duties in a foreign country under the exchange program, in the same manner and to the same extent as if the educational employee were actually performing his or her teaching duties in his or her regularly assigned position in the D.C. Public Schools.

1026.4

Any educational employee participating in a foreign exchange program shall, for purposes of promotion, computation of annual increment, computation for service for retirement credit, including salary contributions to the retirement fund, and leave of absence credits, be considered as performing teaching duties in the D.C. Public Schools.
