The Department may give a Program participant emergency payments up to one thousand dollars ($1,000) per year, upon request from the Program participant, to support the Program participant's career advancement by covering a broad range of short-term household financial emergencies and work or education supports.
The Department may grant a Program participant's request for an emergency payment under this section if the Program participant shows that the payment is necessary to reduce obstacles to a Program participant's career advancement by supporting the household's short-term financial need or participation in employment or training activities. The Department shall not approve any payment for gambling, entertainment, any illegal purpose, or to provide assistance to individuals outside of the Program participant household.
The Department may make emergency payments directly to a third party, such as a landlord or vendor, or as a reimbursement directly to a Program participant in the form of a check or electronic benefit transfer.
