Food shall contain only approved food additives or additives that are within permissible limits as specified in 21 CFR 170.19 - Pesticide chemicals in processed foods; 21 CFR 170.22 - Safety factors to be considered; 21 CFR 170.30 - Eligibility for classification as generally recognized as safe (GRAS); 21 CFR Part 181 - Prior Sanctioned Food Ingredients; 21 CFR Part 182 - Substances Generally Recognized as Safe; 21 CFR Part 184 - Direct Food Substances Affirmed as Generally Recognized as Safe; or 21 CFR Part 186 - Indirect Food Substances Affirmed as Generally Recognized as Safe.
