Section 30-8-12 - Temporary permits(a) Upon proper application and the payment of a fee, the board may issue, without examination, a temporary permit to engage in the practice of optometry in this state.(b) If the permittee receives a passing score on the examination, a temporary permit expires thirty days after the permittee receives the results of the examination.(c) If the permittee receives a failing score on the examination, the temporary permit expires immediately.(d) An applicant under this subsection may only be issued one temporary permit. Upon the expiration of a temporary permit, a person may not practice as an optometrist until he or she is fully licensed under the provisions of this article. In no event may a permittee practice on a temporary permit beyond a period of ninety consecutive days.(e) A temporary permittee under this section shall work under the supervision of a licensee, with the scope of such supervision to be defined by the board by legislative rule.
