(a) If a member of the City Council, during his or her term, removes from the ward that he or she represents, his or her office shall become vacant upon removal from the ward.(b) In case of a vacancy in the office of Mayor, the remaining members of the City Council shall direct the Clerk to call an election of a Mayor by Australian ballot.(c) In case of a vacancy in the office of a City Council member, the remaining members of the City Council shall direct the Clerk to call an election of a City Council member by Australian ballot by the legal voters of the ward in which such vacancy occurs, to fill such vacancy for an unexpired term. However, if a vacancy occurs in the Office of a City Council member during the last year of the Council member's term and after the annual meeting of the City in that year, an appointment shall be made by the City Council for the balance of the term remaining.(d) In case of a vacancy in the Office of the City Clerk or City Treasurer, the vacancy shall be handled in accordance with subsections 12(b) and 13(b) of this charter.(e) School board vacancies shall be handled in accordance with 16 V.S.A. § 424.24 Appendix V.S.A. § 11-7
