Section 1466 - Applicability

The provisions of this chapter shall apply to the United States and to Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands.

AMENDMENTS1989- Pub. L. 101-73 amended section generally. Prior to amendment, section read as follows: "The provisions of this chapter shall apply to the continental United States (including Alaska), to the State of Hawaii, and to Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands."1960- Pub. L. 86-624 substituted "State of Hawaii" for "Territory of Hawaii". 1959- Pub. L. 86-70 substituted "continental United States (including Alaska), to the Territory of Hawaii" for "continental United States, to the Territories of Alaska and Hawaii". 1952-Act July 14, 1952, inserted "Guam".

State
The term "State" means any State, territory, or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, American Samoa, or the United States Virgin Islands or any federally recognized Indian tribe, as defined by the Secretary of the Interior under section 5131(a) of title 25.
