Section 62.161 - Definitions In this subchapter:
(1) "Distinguished researcher" means: (A) an individual researcher who: (ii) is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, or the National Academy of Medicine, formerly known as the Institute of Medicine; or(iii) has attained a highly prestigious national academic recognition, as defined by office rule; or(B) a group of researchers who have attained the recognition described by Paragraph (A)(iii), as defined by office rule.(2) "Eligible institution" means a general academic teaching institution or medical and dental unit.(3) "Fund" means the governor's university research initiative fund established under this subchapter.(4) "General academic teaching institution" has the meaning assigned by Section 61.003.(5) "Medical and dental unit" has the meaning assigned by Section 61.003.(6) "Office" means the Texas Economic Development and Tourism Office within the office of the governor.(7) "Private or independent institution of higher education" has the meaning assigned by Section 61.003.Amended by Acts 2021, Texas Acts of the 87th Leg. - Regular Session, ch. 402,Sec. 1, eff. 6/7/2021.Added by Acts 2015, Texas Acts of the 84th Leg. - Regular Session, ch. 915,Sec. 1.01, eff. 9/1/2015.Added by Acts 2015, Texas Acts of the 84th Leg. - Regular Session, ch. 323,Sec. 1, eff. 9/1/2015.
