Section 55-4-270 - United States coast guard auxiliary(a) An owner or lessee of a motor vehicle who is a resident of this state and who is certified as a member in good standing of the United States coast guard auxiliary, upon complying with state motor vehicle laws relating to registration and licensing of motor vehicles and paying the regular fee applicable to the motor vehicle and the fee provided for in § 55-4-204, shall be issued a United States coast guard auxiliary special purpose license plate for a motor vehicle authorized by § 55-4-210(c).(b) The application for the plates shall be accompanied by a written statement from the commanding officer of the United States coast guard auxiliary certifying the applicant to be a member in good standing of the organization.(c) The special purpose license plates shall bear the official seal of the United States coast guard auxiliary and shall bear the language "U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary" in an appropriate design. The plates shall be designed in consultation with the commanding officer of the United States coast guard auxiliary.(d)(1) Within thirty (30) days of terminating membership in the United States coast guard auxiliary, a motor vehicle owner or lessee to whom a license plate has been issued pursuant to this section shall surrender the plate to the county clerk of the county of the applicant's residence.(2) The commanding officer of the United States coast guard auxiliary shall provide biannually to the department the names and addresses of all persons whose membership in the United States coast guard auxiliary has been terminated during such period, together with such other identifying information as the commissioner may require.Amended by 2018 Tenn.
