Section 55-4-227 - OEM headquarters company(a) Registration plates issued under the OEM headquarters company category pursuant to § 55-4-203(a) may be issued to any OEM headquarters company for purposes of registering any OEM headquarters company vehicle. Eligible employees and eligible family members may operate an OEM headquarters company vehicle on any highway within this state upon displaying thereon plates issued to the OEM headquarters company as provided in this part. A registration plate issued under the OEM headquarters company category may only be transferred to another qualified OEM headquarters company vehicle.(b) The special purpose OEM headquarters company plates provided for in this section shall be designed by the commissioner in consultation with the OEM headquarters company making application for the plate. All special purpose plates issued to any OEM headquarters company shall bear identifying numbers and shall display the word "Tennessee" or an abbreviation thereof.(c) This registration shall be valid so long as title to the OEM headquarters company vehicle is vested in the OEM headquarters company and shall not be subject to the provisions of this chapter requiring annual registration.(d) Any OEM headquarters company may make application to the department for the special purpose plates authorized by this section. The plates shall be free of charge, as provided in § 55-4-204.(e) Any motor vehicle registered for use as an OEM headquarters company vehicle under this section shall, at the termination of such use, be sold at an auction limited to any dealer who sells new or unused motor vehicles of the same line-make as the motor vehicle to be sold.Amended by 2018 Tenn.
