A person may not purchase a vehicle displaying foreign license plates without removing and destroying the license plates unless:
(1) The out-of-state vehicle is sold to a Washington resident by a resident of a jurisdiction where the license plates follow the owner;(2) The out-of-state license plates may be returned to the jurisdiction of issuance by the owner for refund purposes; or(3) For other reasons as determined by the department by rule.Recodified from 46.16.029 by 2010 c 161, § 1215, eff. 7/1/2011.Amended by 2010 c 161, § 411, eff. 7/1/2011.Effective date-Intent-Legislation to reconcile chapter 161, Laws of 2010 and other amendments made during the 2010 legislative session- 2010 c 161: See notes following RCW 46.04.013.
