The commissioners may appropriate to any duly incorporated society chartered to maintain a sanatorium for the treatment therein of persons suffering from tuberculosis so much money as may be necessary for the maintenance of indigent persons, residents of the county, who may be inmates of such sanatorium and under treatment for tuberculosis. The commissioners shall at all time have free access to such sanatorium for inspection of its management and for the ascertainment of the number of indigent persons receiving treatment therein.
