Any person who shall knowingly make any false statement of a material fact, either in his application for a certificate of title, as provided for in this title, or in any assignment thereof, or who, with intent to procure or pass title to a vessel or motor which he knows or has reason to believe has been stolen, or who shall receive or transfer possession of the same from or to another, or who shall have in his possession any vessel or motor which he knows or has reason to believe has been stolen, and who is not a duly authorized peace officer of this state engaged at the time in the performance of his duty as such officer, upon conviction, shall be guilty of a felony and shall be punished by a fine of not less than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) and not more than Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00), or imprisonment in the State Penitentiary for a period of not less than one (1) year nor more than ten (10) years, or by both such fine and imprisonment, at the discretion of the court.
This provision shall not be exclusive of any other penalties prescribed by an existing or future law for the larceny or unauthorized taking of a vessel or motor.
