September 17 of each year is hereby designated as "Space Day", in honor of the birthday of Thomas P. Stafford, retired Lieutenant General, United States Air Force, and native Oklahoman, and to bring awareness regarding human achievements related to the study of space and its exploration, including but not limited to travel to and from the moon, the use of probes to learn more about our solar system, planets, asteroids and other celestial objects, the possibility of travel to and from planets in our solar system and the value of space exploration with its associated impact on science and technology.
