Section 4507.501 - State identification card expiration dates(A) An identification card issued to a resident shall expire, unless canceled or surrendered earlier, on the birthday of the cardholder in the fourth or the eighth year after the date on which it is issued, based on the period of renewal requested by the applicant.(B) A temporary identification card issued to a resident shall expire on the earliest of the following dates: (1) After the effective dates of the suspension or cancellation of the cardholder's driver's or commercial driver's license;(2) The birthday of the cardholder in the fourth year after the date on which it is issued.(C)(1) Subject to rules adopted under division (D) of this section, a limited term identification card issued to a temporary resident who has a definite expiration date for the resident's authorized stay in the United States shall expire on the earliest of the following dates: (a) The expiration date of the applicant's authorized stay in the United States;(b) Four years from the date of issuance.(2) Subject to rules adopted under division (D) of this section, a limited term identification card issued to a temporary resident who has no expiration date for the applicant's authorized stay in the United States shall expire one year from the date of issuance.(D) The registrar of motor vehicles shall adopt rules in accordance with Chapter 119. of the Revised Code governing limited term identification cards for temporary residents and limited term temporary identification cards for temporary residents.(E) A cardholder may renew the cardholder's identification card within ninety days prior to the day on which it expires by filing an application and paying the prescribed fee, if required, in accordance with section 4507.50 of the Revised Code. A limited term identification card or limited term temporary identification card may only be renewed upon verification of the applicant's continued temporary lawful status in the United States and the applicant's compliance with any other applicable requirements.Added by 135th General Assembly, HB 33,§101.01, eff. 10/3/2023.Repealed by 134th General Assembly, HB 21,§3, eff. 10/1/2022.
