Section 23.1-01-03 - Director - Powers and dutiesThe director of the department of environmental quality shall:
1. Enforce all rules adopted by the department;2. Hire employees as necessary to carry out the duties of the department and director;3. Organize the department in the most efficient and effective manner;4. Maintain, in conjunction with the department of health and human services, a laboratory to carry out the necessary tests and examinations for purposes of this title, and establish a fee schedule for the tests and examinations;5. Issue bulletins, news releases, or reports as necessary to inform the public of environmental hazards;6. Establish rules necessary for maintaining sanitation, including rules for approving plans for water works and sewage systems;7. Maintain a central environmental laboratory and, if necessary, branch laboratories for the standard function of diagnostic, sanitary, and chemical examinations; and8. Any other action, including the collection and distribution of environmental quality data, necessary and appropriate for the administration of this title and chapters 61-28, 61-28.1, and 61-28.2.Amended by S.L. 2021 , ch. 352( HB 1247 ), § 269, eff. 9/1/2022.Added by S.L. 2017 , ch. 199( SB 2327 ), § 16, eff. 4/29/2019.
