Section 218A.655 - Payment to Legislators for travel expenses for certain legislative business1. Except as otherwise provided in NRS 218A.645, each Legislator is entitled to receive an allowance for travel in the transaction of legislative business authorized by specific statute or the Legislative Commission, whether within or outside of the municipality or other area in which the Legislator's principal office is located. Transportation must be by the most economical means, considering total cost and time spent in transit. The allowance is: (a) If the travel is by private conveyance, the standard mileage reimbursement rate for which a deduction is allowed for the purposes of federal income tax.(b) If the travel is not by private conveyance, the actual amount expended.2. Claims for expenses made pursuant to this section must be paid from the Legislative Fund unless otherwise provided by specific statute. A claim for travel expenses must not be paid unless the Legislator submits a signed statement affirming: (a) The date of travel; and(b) The places of departure and arrival and, if the travel is by private conveyance, the actual miles traveled.
