Section 87.507 - Health care benefits for retirees, separate fund established for benefit and premiums - application by retiree to be special consultant, compensation to fund benefits1. The governing body of the city or county may provide or contract for insurance benefits to cover hospital, surgical and medical expenses for retirees under sections 87.495 to 87.515, in an amount not to exceed one hundred dollars per month for each retiree.2. If the governing body agrees to provide benefits pursuant to this section, a separate account for hospital, surgical and medical benefits shall be established as part of the benefit reserve fund. All benefits and premiums shall be transferred from the general revenue fund of the association to the benefit reserve fund for payment of hospital, surgical and medical benefits.3. Any retiree who is receiving benefits from the system may make application to the governing body to be named as a special advisor to the firemen's retirement association. Upon the acceptance of such application, the governing body may deposit in the fund created in subsection 2 of this section an amount not to exceed one hundred dollars per month for the applicant and may make a monthly payment from the fund created in subsection 2 of this section toward health care benefits for the applicant as provided in subsection 1 of this section.
