Section 257.1820 - Stop-arm camera system(1) A school bus may be equipped with a stop-arm camera system in accordance with this section.(2) A school may do either of the following:(a) Install and operate a stop-arm camera system on a school bus.(b) Enter into a contract with a private vendor to install and operate a stop-arm camera system on a school bus.(3) As used in this section, "stop-arm camera system" means a system of 2 or more cameras affixed to a school bus that meets all of the following requirements: (a) Is synchronized to automatically record video or 1 or more sequenced photographs of a vehicle failing to stop for a school bus or passing a school bus in violation of section 682(1) of the Michigan vehicle code, 1949 PA 300, MCL 257.682.(b) Is capable of capturing images of all of the following:(ii) The registration plate on the rear of the vehicle.(iii) A distance of not less than 200 feet in front of the school bus.(c) Records the date, time, and location on an image produced by the system.Added by 2021, Act 52,s 1, eff. 10/11/2021.
