Section 16.715 - Duties generallyThe commission shall:
(a) Appoint an executive director who shall serve as secretary to the commission and carry on the administrative and ministerial functions of the commission when it is not in session and who shall act in such other capacities as the commission directs.(b) Approve employees required to carry out assigned responsibilities in accordance with civil service regulations and within limitations provided by law and prescribe their duties.(c) Request the services of all state and local governmental departments and agencies to assure that Indian citizens have access to decision-making bodies, the policies of which affect the Indian population in any area.(d) Actively consult with representatives of those federal agencies and departments having control over Indian affairs.(e) Recommend to the legislature such legislation that will serve the interests of Indian residents in this state.(f) Cooperate with such agencies that will aid in effectuating the purposes of this act.(g) Apply for and accept grants and gifts from a governmental or private source.(h) Submit a full written report of its activities and recommendations each year to the legislature and governor.1972, Act 195, Eff. 7/1/1972.
