Section 33:1420.1 - Special retirement benefits; PlaquemineA. The legislature finds that it is in the best interest of the state to authorize municipal governments, recognizing the services of retired city employees, to create plans which provide special retirement benefits as part of their retirement programs for the benefit of their employees. Such benefits are intended to assist retired city employees in obtaining the basic necessities of life in their retirement years as the cost of living increases and to recognize their services to local government.B. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, the governing authority of the city of Plaquemine may adopt an ordinance to implement a special plan as part of its retirement program for its retired employees to provide city retirees with a special additional retirement benefit to supplement existing retirement compensation.C. For purposes of this Section, the term "retired employee" shall mean a retired full-time city employee who was employed by the city for more than fifteen years and other retired employees as defined by ordinances of the city of Plaquemine for purposes of this Section.Acts 1992, No. 1025, §1; Acts 1999, No. 110, §1.
