§ 10033. Purpose

The purpose of the Regional Academic Medical Centers is to develop and strengthen a comprehensive public health system at the primary, the secondary and the tertiary levels. The Regional Academic Medical Centers shall provide an optimum environment which shall bring together the purposes, priorities, objectives and reforming mission of the government as well as of the schools of medicine for offering and providing cost-effective, accessible and quality health services to all persons equally, without taking into consideration their race, gender or religious or political beliefs. They shall, at the same time, develop and strengthen educational programs for health professionals, stimulate the development of clinical, epidemiological and socio-medical research and offer health and other services and under no circumstances shall operate for profit.
