(a) The Department of Health is hereby designated as the Commonwealth agency in charge of cooperating with the United States Secretary of Agriculture under the provisions of § 5 of the Federal Poultry Products Inspection Act in developing and administering a Commonwealth poultry and poultry products inspection program under the provisions of this chapter to insure that its requirements shall be at least equal to those prescribed by the Federal Poultry Products Inspection Act, as well as to carry out the purposes of this chapter.
(b) To carry out this cooperation, the Secretary is hereby authorized to accept from the United States Secretary of Agriculture the aid and advisory assistance as well as technical and laboratory assistance and training (including curricular and instructional materials and equipment), and financial and other aid for planning, developing and administering such state program. The Secretary is further authorized to use Commonwealth funds available by law to pay the proportion of the estimated total cost of this cooperative program agreed upon with the Federal Department of Agriculture.
(c) The Secretary is likewise authorized to recommend to the Federal Secretary of Agriculture names of officers or employees of the Commonwealth Government to be designated in the advisory committees provided in § 5 of the Federal Poultry Products Inspection Act.
The Secretary shall act as representative of the Governor to consult the United States Secretary of Agriculture under paragraph (c) of § 5 of said act, unless the Governor selects another representative.
