§ 2551. Definitions

For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall have the meaning indicated below:

(a) Health educator. — Shall mean any qualified professional who has taken graduate courses in health education which qualify him to analyze and interpret the existing data on health problems with regard to the deficiencies of an educational nature, as well as to plan, develop, evaluate and conduct the educational programs which, together with other activities of the health team, seek to correct the health problems which have been identified, administer health education programs, make investigations in the field and practice teaching at a university level.

(b) Board. — Shall mean the Board of Examiners of Health Educators of Puerto Rico created under this chapter.

(c) Community health educators. — Shall mean any qualified professional who has completed studies towards a bachelor’s degree in health education which would qualify him to develop educational programs in the community which, together with the rest of the activities of the health team, aim to correct the health problems which have already been identified and improve the quality of life.

(d) Revalidation examination. — Shall mean one of the requirements to obtain the health educator’s or community health educator’s license which will measure the level of cognitive competence, aptitude and skills to practice the profession of health educator and community health educator.

(e) Recertification. — Shall mean the procedure provided for health professions in §§ 3001 et seq. of Title 24.
