Dental assistants duly authorized and registered to practice in Puerto Rico may only practice or work under the direction and/or supervision of a duly authorized odontologist either in the latter’s office, or in any other place duly qualified for such practice or in any other place duly qualified in a government department, agency or organization or of a municipality.
The work of the dental [assistant] does not include oral pathology diagnostic, prescriptions of medicines and oral prosthesis, nor clinical procedure of irreversible character. The Board of Dental Examiners shall assign, by regulation, the work that the dental assistant may practice, which shall be approved and promulgated in accordance with the Rules and Regulations Act of 1958, and which shall be available within the two (2) months following the date of effectiveness of § 141 and following sections of this Act. The Board of Dental Examiners shall publish said regulations at least during two (2) days in a newspaper of general circulation in Puerto Rico so that the persons concerned may be duly informed of its contents.
