(a) The Board shall determine through regulations, the revalidation examination procedures it deems necessary in order to measure the competence of a candidate to work as speech-language pathologist, audiologist or speech-language therapist. The revalidation examination shall be given at least twice a year and shall contain all that material related to or needed for the practice of the profession that the petitioner in question is interested in practicing, and the same shall be established through regulations. The revalidation examination shall be given in Spanish or English, for the aspirant to choose.
(b) The Board shall seek counsel from professionals who are experts in examination preparation techniques, in order to ensure the validity thereof as instruments to measure knowledge and skills.
(c) Any person who, as of the effective date of this act, fails the revalidation examination on three (3) separate occasions, shall not take the examination anew until he/she presents to the Board satisfactory evidence that he/she has taken and passed the pertinent course or courses, after the Board has evaluated his/her particular situation. Once the person has taken and passed the course or courses required herein, he/she shall have two (2) additional opportunities to take the examination.
(d) Should the pertinent courses not be available, the aspirant will not be required to take such courses and shall have two (2) additional opportunities to take the revalidation examination.
(e) The Board shall adopt guidelines that guarantee to the aspirants who fail the revalidation examination, the right to examine their answer sheet, to receive an itemization of the grade and to request a reconsideration of the granting of the examination. Any person who has taken the examination shall be granted a term of ninety (90) days from the date he/she received notice of the examination results, to file any allegation in his/her favor with regard to the grading of the examination. The examination papers of those who have passed may be destroyed after the aforementioned ninety (90) days have elapsed. The Board shall keep the examination papers of the last three tests the person failed, with the purpose of expediting the procedure established in this section.
(f) The Board shall also provide the aspirant with the standards that govern the administration of the examination, the kind of test and the method of evaluating it, as well as the regulations of the Board, before he/she shows up for the examination, to provide guidance to the aspirant about the revalidation process.
(g) A handbook shall be prepared and published for such purposes, which shall contain all the information concerning the revalidation examination; a copy of which shall be available and provided to any person who requests admission to take the examination, upon presenting a voucher in the amount of ten dollars ($10).
(h) The Board may revise the cost of this revalidation handbook from time to time, based upon its preparation and publication cost, but the amount charged shall not exceed the real cost of such expense.
