In the event that any employee needs the accreditation of services not credited in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico Employees Retirement System in order to complete twenty-five (25) years, he/she shall submit his/her application to the Coordinator for Retirement Affairs of the Environmental Quality Board of Puerto Rico before the date of separation from service. It is further provided that employees may use the vacation and sick leaves accrued in order to calculate any months that they may need to complete the retirement requirements set forth in this chapter, in order to avail themselves of said window, provided that they so request on or before the date of separation from service.
The Coordinator for Retirement Affairs of the Environmental Quality Board of Puerto Rico shall certify to the Retirement System that the application for services not credited was submitted while the employee was still in active service.
The Administrator of the Retirement System shall accept payment from the employee for any services not credited, provided he/she receives the Certification from the Coordinator. The effective date of the pension shall be the day following the date of separation from service, even if the employee has not paid in full the services not credited.
