The “Repository for Archives and Memorabilia of Ex-Governors and Ex-First Ladies of Puerto Rico” is hereby created, which shall have the responsibility of preserving and saving historic materials, such as documents, books, artifacts, films, photographs and furniture that pertained to each of our Ex Governors and Ex First Ladies, it has received as donation. It shall keep them at the disposal of the general public of its use and enjoyment.
Each Governor or Ex Governor, or his/her succession interested [in] taking advantage of the provisions of this chapter, may choose the entity that would constitute the repository of his/her documents or objects. The chosen repository shall be a foundation created for said purpose, or a higher education institutional entity, public or private, that has stated its availability to carry out this [sic] duties.
In case the institution constituted as a Repository for documents or objects of Ex Governors and their spouses ceases to exist, the documents or objects in its possession shall be returned to them or to their successions. This shall not apply in cases of donations or to objects or documents acquired by way of purchase. The repository institution shall be obliged to notify the Ex Governor, Ex First Lady, or his/her succession of its cease of operations. They shall respond to said notification within a term of ninety (90) days after the date of the same. If no answer is received, the General Archives of Puerto Rico shall assume custody of said documents or objects.
