§ 729i. Public Employees Health Benefits Act—Administration

(a) Regulations of the Administration shall include regulations with respect to the beginning and ending dates of coverage of employees and their family members, as defined in § 729c of this title, under a health benefit plan. For such purpose, these may allow such coverage to continue in force in addition to the temporary extension of coverage provided under subsection (d) of § 729d of this title, until the end of the pay period in which an employee is separated from service. Moreover, such regulations may provide for the form and manner whereby employer and employee contributions shall be transferred to the Administration for the payment of premiums.

(b) Regulations of the Secretary of the Treasury shall include regulations with respect to the beginning and ending dates of coverage of employees and members of their families under health benefits plans, and for such purpose may permit such coverage to continue in force, exclusive of the temporary extension of coverage described in § 729d(d) of this title, until the end of the pay period in which an employee is separated from service.

(c) The Administration shall make available to each employee eligible to enroll in a health benefit plan under this §§ 729a—729n of this title, in a form acceptable to said Administration after consultation with the carrier, such information as may be necessary to enable such employee to exercise an informed choice among the types of plans referred to in § 729e of this title. Each employee enrolled in such a health benefit plan shall be issued an appropriate document setting forth or summarizing the services or benefits (including caps, limitations, and exclusions) to which the employee and his family members, as defined in subsection (g) of § 729c of this title, are entitled thereunder, the procedure for obtaining benefits, and the principal provisions of the plan affecting the employee or family members, as defined in subsection (g) of § 729c of this title.

(d) The Secretary of the Treasury shall make available to each employee eligible to enroll in a health benefits plan under §§ 729a-729n of this title, in a form acceptable to said Secretary after consultation with the carrier, such information as may be necessary to enable such employee to exercise an informed choice among the types of plans referred to in § 729e of this title. Each employee enrolled in such a health benefits plan shall be issued an appropriate document setting forth or summarizing the services or benefits (including maximums, limitations, and exclusions), to which the employee and members of his family, are entitled thereunder, the procedure for obtaining benefits, and the principal provisions of the plan affecting the employee or members of his family.
