§ 996k. Penalties

The Commissioner is hereby authorized to levy and collect administrative fines of not less than one hundred dollars ($100) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000) for any violation of the provisions of this chapter or of the provisions contained in the rules and regulations promulgated hereunder.

When the nature of the violation of this chapter or of the rules or regulations, or orders and resolutions issued by the Commissioner do so justify, the Commissioner shall promote criminal action against the violator in lieu of the administrative fine authorized by the preceding paragraph.

Any violation of the provisions of this chapter or of the provisions contained in the rules and regulations promulgated hereunder or of the orders and resolutions issued by the Commissioner shall constitute a misdemeanor, and be punishable by a fine of not more than five hundred dollars ($500) or by imprisonment for a term not to exceed six (6) months, or both penalties in the discretion of the court.
