As used in §§ 741—756 of this title, the following terms shall have the following meanings:
(a) Livestock. — Shall mean any bull, steer, ox, cow, heifer, calf, horse, colt, mule, ass, goat, kid, sheep, lamb, deer, buffalo, zebra or other domestic ruminant or equine animal in Puerto Rico.
(b) Cattle diseases. — Means Texas fever or bovine piroplasmosis, equine piroplasmosis, anaplasmosis fever, infectious anemia, dermatophilosis, pericarditis, as well as other infectious or transmissible livestock diseases.
(c) Texas fever or bovine piroplasmosis. — Shall mean a dangerous disease that causes death to livestock and is transmitted from a sick animal to another sick or well animal, by the cattle tick.
(d) Anaplasmosis fever. — Shall mean another dangerous fever transmitted by the cattle tick.
(e) Infectious anemia, dermatophilosis and pericarditis. — Shall mean other infectious diseases that endanger the livestock industry, transmitted through vectors which include the cattle tick.
(f) Cattle tick. — Shall mean the cattle tick fever, Boophilus microplus, Boophilus australis, Boophilus annulatus, African tick (Amblyoma variegatum) and the tropical horse tick (Dermacentor nitens and Anocenter nitens).
(g) Department. — Shall mean the Department of Agriculture of Puerto Rico.
(h) Secretary. — Shall mean the Secretary of Agriculture of Puerto Rico.
(i) Secretary’s costs. — Shall mean all costs necessarily or reasonably incurred by the Secretary or his authorized representatives in taking infected cattle into custody.
(j) Expenses. — Shall mean the removal, transportation, dipping, feeding and penning of any livestock taken into custody.
(k) Marshal. — Shall mean the official of the General Court of Justice of the Commonwealth who takes the livestock into custody.
(l) Marshal’s costs. — Shall mean the remuneration allowed by law to the Marshal for the services performed under § 750 of this title.
(m) Premises. — Shall mean any premises, range, field, pasture, pen, barn, or any enclosure whatsoever.
(n) Quarantine zone. — Shall mean that area surrounded by quarantine lines and which the Secretary or his authorized representatives have designated as a quarantine zone for the purpose of eradicating the tick causing cattle or livestock diseases in said district.
(o) Regular and systematic treatment. — Shall mean the dip or spray with the tickicide established by the Department to which the livestock, whether infected or not, shall be submitted in the quarantine zones for each period and the time that is necessary, through immersion baths or sprays or any other system established in the future.
