Section 46-1208 - Legislative budget committee(a) There is hereby established the legislative budget committee which shall consist of seven members of the legislature appointed by the legislative coordinating council for terms ending on the first day of the regular legislative session in odd-numbered years. In making such appointments, preference shall be given to members of the ways and means committee of the senate and the committee on appropriations of the house of representatives. At least two of the members shall be of the minority party, at least one of whom shall be a senator and at least one of whom shall be a representative. The chairperson and the vice-chairperson of the legislative budget committee shall be appointed by the legislative coordinating council.(b) During and between sessions of the legislature the legislative budget committee shall compile fiscal information and shall make a continuous study of the state budget, revenues and expenditures. The legislative budget committee shall also ascertain facts and make recommendations to the legislature and to the houses thereof concerning the state budget, the revenues and expenditures of the state, and of the organization and functions of the state, its departments, subdivisions and agencies with a view of reducing the cost of state government and securing greater efficiency and economy.(c) Provisions of this act applicable to special committees shall apply to the legislative budget committee to the extent that the same do not conflict with the specific provisions of this act applicable to the legislative budget committee.L. 1971, ch. 184, § 8; L. 1974, ch. 221, § 1; L. 1987, ch. 196, § 8; Feb. 19.
