When both parties desire it, the court may direct the sheriff to summon eighteen (18) or fewer competent jurors, and the plaintiff first, and then the defendant, shall strike out one (1) juror in turn, until each has struck off six (6) or more jurors. The remaining jurors shall try the cause. However, if the parties consent, the parties, upon being furnished with a list of jurors to be summoned, may exercise the right to strike out any part of the names before the jurors are summoned, and the remaining jurors only shall be summoned.
