Section 20-20-49-5 - [Effective Until 7/1/2024] Grant application; form; plan description and information; plan alignment with science of reading(a) Subject to section 6 of this chapter, the department may, after June 30, 2024, award a grant under this chapter to a school corporation or charter school that does the following:(1) Applies for a grant on a form provided by the department.(2) Submits a detailed description of a plan that:(A) must include: (i) placing literacy instructional coaches in elementary schools for the purposes of training and supporting teachers and administrators in order to improve instruction related to the science of reading; and(ii) training teachers and school principals in instructional practices aligned with the science of reading; and(B) may include, if the school corporation or charter school is requesting grant funds for the purpose described in section 4(3) or 4(4) of this chapter the following, as applicable:(i) Increasing instructional time, including summer literacy programs or high-dosage tutoring, for students who have been identified as struggling readers based on a diagnostic screening authorized by the department under IC 20-35.5-2-2.(ii) Elementary schools and school corporations purchasing curricular materials that align with the science of reading and receive approval by the department.(3) Submits the following information: (A) Evidence supporting the school corporation's or charter school's plan under subdivision (2).(B) The number of elementary school teachers and literacy instructional coaches employed by the school corporation or charter school.(C) Any other pertinent information required by the department.(b) Any instruction under a plan that includes increasing instructional time as described in subsection (a)(2)(B)(i) must align with the science of reading.Added by P.L. 250-2023,SEC. 10, eff. 7/1/2023.This section is set out more than once due to postponed, multiple, or conflicting amendments.
