Section 16-19-4-4 - Commissioner; employed physicians; ethics and conflicts of interest; practice of medicine(a) The state health commissioner and any physicians employed by the state department are governed in the performance of their official duties by IC 4-2-6 and IC 35-44.1-1-4 concerning ethics and conflict of interest.(b) To learn professional skills and to become familiar with new developments in the field of medicine, and except as provided in IC 16-42-27-2(f), the state health commissioner may, in an individual capacity as a licensed physician and not in an official capacity as state health commissioner, engage in the practice of medicine if the practice of medicine does not interfere with the performance of the state health commissioner's duties as state health commissioner.(c) The state health commissioner may designate in writing employees in the state department who are licensed as a physician and may engage in the practice of medicine outside of their official duties.Pre-1993 Recodification Citation: 16-1-2-5(b).
