Section 65 ILCS 5/11-37-3 - Electrical commission - Recommendations

The electrical commission shall recommend (1) safe and practical standards and specifications for the installation, alteration, and use of electrical equipment designed to meet the necessities and conditions of the particular locality, (2) reasonable rules and regulations governing the issuance of permits by the electrical inspection department, and (3) reasonable fees to be paid for the inspection by the inspection department of all electrical equipment installed or altered within the municipality. The standards, specifications, rules, regulations, and fees so recommended shall not become effective until adopted by ordinance by the corporate authorities of the municipality. All fees so adopted shall be paid into the municipal treasury.

In a municipality which has established an electrical inspection department, no electrical equipment shall be installed or altered except upon a permit first issued by that department. The electrical inspection department shall issue permits for the installation and alteration of electrical equipment in all cases where application is made in accordance with the rules and regulations applicable thereto. That department shall inspect all electrical equipment installed or altered in the municipality and shall require that it conform to the standards and specifications applicable and adopted as provided in this section.
